Ruby taking it easy

Yeah it's nearly chrismas!

I can't wait!
I'm so excited, it's December tomorrow and I start my Advent calendar - they're selling special pet ones at Highcroft (and lots of christmas toys and goodies).  Make sure your mum buys you one!  £2.95,  cheaper than Tesco (so I've heard) !  We're getting our christmas tree this weekend too - I love prodding and sniffing the presents under the tree.  I always get loads of presents, my friends are jealous and call me a pampered pet.  I think they're joking.  Ha ha

By the way, as a responsible Blogger, I am obliged to tell you that UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, even if you are mad starving, should you eat anything you find under or on a Christmas tree!  Chocolate is very poisonous for us pets (except special doggie chocolate) and decorations can be very dangerous, especially if you jump into the tree to get them (which my friend Tigger the cat did and pulled the whole tree over, got a massive shock and a really told off)!  Don't want to end up in hospital for christmas do we... ;)

Oh dear, I've had to have an emergency operation!

A disaster happened last week - a small growth, lump, whatever, appeared on my toe.  Next thing I know, Dad has me booked into the hospital the next day (helps that he's the boss!) and asked Auntie Jules Pope (the master surgeon) to operate and take away the growthy thing.  She was so kind to me and I know she did a good job because dad was really pleased and it hardly hurt.  Now I have a snazzy bandage on my leg, so cool.

The worst part is not being able to go for walks, but that's OK because I am getting really spoilt with lots of cuddles and treats - like fresh chicken to eat!

I'm 5, going on 35!

Guess what, it was my birthday this week and I was 5!  My dad says that in dog years I'm 35 (there are 7 human years to every 1 dog year) which means that in two years time I'll be almost as old as he is :(    - but not as grey ;)

Did you know that only 2 out of 10 owners buy their dog a birthday present?  I feel extra special because not only did I get presents from Mum and Dad,  I got a birthday cake from Auntie Joyce and I got to play with Tilly all day.

And I blew the candles out on my cake - did you ever see a dog blowing out candles???   It took me ages, Tilly had to help, and we all laughed our heads off.  What a great day, wish you'd been there.  Love Ruby xx

Batty news

I’ve been completely into Facebook recently, neglecting my blog, sorry.  Have you been on the Highcroft Facebook page yet?  I love it so much!  Did you see that hilarious video last Friday?  The one “How to tease you dog”.  If my dad had done that to me I would have been mad.   Jemma Adams (Pet of the Month) and her wheels are pretty cool too.

We had a bat in this week for a caesarean – I have never seen a bat before, heard lots of scary stuff about them only coming out at night and flying round and round and living upside down and making strange noises.  She is called Spikey and had been rescued by Secret World and was with a foster mum.  The foster mum noticed that Spikey was getting bigger and bigger and brought it to us for a scan to see if she was pregnant - she was.  The baby was enormous, nearly as big as Spikey, but sadly it had died L  The good news is that the Spikey is absolutely fine however, she must have been a bit stressed because she bit Vim the vet who then had to go to A&E for a tetanus!
Bye for now, have a good weekend,
Ruby xx

I'm back!

Sorry I haven’t blogged for a while, I’ve been staying with my Granny at Burnham-on-Sea.  I really love my Granny, she takes me for lots of walks on the beach and gives me cuddles.

Whilst I was away, Dad did a massive bike ride to raise money for the Blood Bikes charity – 250 miles over 3 days.  He even cycled up the Snake Path in the Peak District without stopping, he’s so fit!  If you want make a donation, here’s the link   Blood Bikes Appeal 2011

My easter bonnet!!!!!

Easter was greeaaat!  Not only did I get doggy chocs, I got this cool easter bonnet.  Thanks mum!

Hey, Highcroft's on facebook now so you can  keep right up to date with what's going on Highcroft on Facebook

See you all soon, Rubes xxx

All I want for Easter is doggy chocs, hint hint :=)

I don’t mean to moan, but things are a bit up and down lately.  The ‘down’ is that my mum and dad have been dishing out Easter Eggs to my human cousins like they’re going out of fashion and if I hear “Make sure you don’t give any to Ruby” one more time, I’m going to yowl.

Seems that Easter Eggs are bad for dogs, what’s that all about?  Well I’ve looked it up, and they are.  What’s more, they are especially bad for small dogs like me.  Chocolate has something in it that can make us very ill, and can even kill us if we have too much. Boo Hoo.

There is an ‘up’ though – I know that there is a special ‘chocolate for dogs’, I’ve seen it for sale at Highcroft, so I’m hoping for a surprise on Sunday from my human cousins who always make a fuss of me :=)

Wish me luck - Happy Easter everyone!

It should have been me!

I can’t tell you how busy things have been over the past week or so.   The reception at the hospital has had a make-over, and we’ve even had a camera crew filming behind the scenes for a ‘hospital tour’.  Everyone showing off how good they are – except me!  There’s a goose in it, Raj, wandering around like he owns the place, but not me.  How can there be a film without the star of Highcroft, the boss’s pet?! :=S   It’s an outrage.  I’m sacking my agent.

Violins and VIPs

A strange thing happened, this guy turned up at the hospital with a violin case (looking very dodgy I thought).  Anyway, turns out he's an international violin dealer called Andrew Hooker who's selling this really old violin (like about 300 years old) and wants to make sure it's not too damaged.  All gets a bit technical after that, but basically CT scans are 3D so he can see right into the wood and check whether it's got woodworm or has been repaired lots - after all I bet it has been dropped and bashed about loads since 1700 and something.  Anyway, looks like it was OK and is off to a famous violinist in America - cool.  Andrew's coming back in next week and I think he's quite important so I'll try and get a picture this time.
Chris (our Referrals Manager) getting the violin ready for scanning, clearly amused by the whole thing

We need more trees!

This'll make you laugh -  I went to the park on Saturday and it was so busy I had to queue for a wee!  We need to plant more trees :s  (I do live in a very polite part of Bristol mind)  xx

I need cool Kangaroo names!

It’s me Ruby back from Devon.  What's been happening friends?

OMG look what my mum and dad brought me and Tilly from Australia – Kangaroos with pouches, Joey’s and everything.   I love my Kangas, can’t wait to show our Zoo vets, Rowena and Michelle :-)  Need to think of some cool names first - Tilly nicked the best ones - Skippy and Joey.

Got any ideas? LOL xxx

Wednesday 9 February 2011

Hello, Joe here (I'm a friend of Ruby's), Ruby should be back today but I just wanted to show off first with this picture of me up the Oak tree – no one believed me when I told them I climbed it, but I did, and look how high it is!  One minute I’m chasing a bird, next thing I’m up a tree.   lol :P

Hi Ruby, we've all missed you.  Have you lost lots of weight and got your passport sorted?  Thanks for letting me blog.  See you at the hospital soon xx

Ruby's on holiday

Hello, I’m Tilly, I’m a Jack Russell and I’m small, loud and fearless.  My mum is Joyce, she runs the Ashton branch which is how I know Ruby.

My friends say I'm fun, my Mum and Richard say I’m naughty - this is me playing with a friend in the waiting room at Ashton – I’m the one with the pink diamond studded collar. I get to make lots of friends at Ashton, the clients’ love me so I can’t be all that bad.
Miss you Ruby, hope you’re having a good time – how’s the diet going – ha ha!?

Thursday 20 January 2011

I’m going holiday :-)

Today I came up to the hospital to say goodbye to my friends as my mum and dad go off to Australia tomorrow and I go to stay with my Auntie in Devon.

I can’t go to Australia, it’s too far, but I am going to France at the end of the summer AND I am getting my own Pet Passport – so exciting.  You have to get passports at least 6 -8 months ahead, so IF YOU WANT TO GO ABROAD THIS SUMMER, MAKE SURE YOU GET A PET PASSPORT NOW.

Boy did I get a pre-holiday surprise today – I had to go to the slimming clinic with the nurse!  Dad says I had far too many treats over Christmas (and too much turkey), I've put on weight and it's not healthy.

Me tasting the food - it's surprisingly yummy
OK I must admit I have been scoffing a bit and I have been feeling a bit tired and sluggish -  I would like to feel better.   Anyway, I tried the Hill's Science Plan ‘light’ food and it's really quite nice and I can have lots of it because it has less calories .... perfect diet.

I'm off to my Auntie's now for 2 weeks and I won't be able to blog, but Tilly and Joe are going to keep it going (oh boy could this be a mistake!) so please keep following.

Happy New Year!

I’m back!  I had the best Christmas - Santa brought me so many presents I must have been really good last year.

Dad worked a lot this christmas because it was really busy at Highcroft, but my mum was home so I stayed with her and we did ‘stuff’ together, like visiting people and going to the beach.   Here's some pics:

Me waiting for santa (snoring)

Thanks Santa, everything that was on my list and more!

Full up and fed up with turkey, I'm only little!

On the beach with mum
I showed these pictures to Joe Cocker and he said it looks like I was on my own for Christmas, but I really wasn’t, my mum and dad were there, they just don't like having their pictures taken L.   Joe says his mum's the same, it's an age thing ;-)

I am back to Highcroft properly on Monday, Christmas was great but I really missed all my friends....
